There are two components to the Student Program for PAC09:
- a system of travel grants and registration fee subsidies,
- and Student Poster Prizes.
The travel grants include funds toward travel and accommodation expenses and a waiving of the student registration fee. A limited number of grants will be available. Regrettably, the grants do not necessarily cover all costs involved in attending the conference. The number and value of the grants will be announced at the time of awarding, February 2nd, 2009.
The student registration fee subsidy amounts to a waiving of the student registration fee only. A limited number of subsidies will be available.
All students are in principle eligible to apply for a grant or subsidy; indeed there is a single procedure that applies to both. The application criteria are:
- To register for PAC09.
- To submit an abstract by December 10th 2008 and a paper to the proceedings by April 29th, 2009.
- To confirm your student status by sending a letter from either your supervisor, department head, or university registrar confirming your enrollment in a full-time, degree-granting university science or engineering course. You should send it immediately to pac09@triumf.ca or by mail to:
- PAC09
TRIUMF Conference Coordinator - Sandi Miller

- To apply by logging on to your PAC09 SPMS account at http://appora.fnal.gov/pls/pac09/profile.html using your normal JACoW username and password, and then clicking on the Student Subsidy/Poster link once an abstract has been submitted.
- To arrange for your supervisor or group leader to send a letter of recommendation to pac09@triumf.ca by 23:59 PST Sunday, January 11th, 2009.
All students wishing to participate in the Student Poster Prizes competition must complete the same on-line form at the Student Subsidy/Poster link within their PAC09 SPMS account.
The deadline for applications is December 10th, 2008.
Due to limited funds, the grants and subsidies will be awarded by open competition. Applicants will be ranked according to merit; those in a higher ranking will receive grants, and those in a lower ranking will receive the registration fee subsidy. If demand for grants and subsidies exceeds the funds available, some students in the lowest ranking will receive neither a grant nor a subsidy.
It is expected that students receiving grants will agree to take on light duties in aid of the local organizing committee, such as assisting session chairmen with time keeping or working with the conference secretariat.
All students meeting the application criteria above and in addition who describe and defend their work at the special Student Poster Session on Sunday May 3rd, will be eligible for the Student Poster Prizes. Students will be eligible for the Poster Prizes whether or not they have been awarded a grant or subsidy, provided that they present a poster. Any students having a contributed oral must still present a poster in order to be eligible for the Poster Prizes.
PAC09 cannot pay students' expenses or fees in advance, and any grants or subsidies awarded will be implemented by cash payments upon arrival in Vancouver at the Conference Secretariat. |
