23rd International Nuclear Physics Conference

June 3-8, 2007
Tokyo International Forum

The 23rd International Nuclear Physics Conference (INPC2007) was held from June 3 through June 8, 2007, at the Tokyo International Forum. The conference was sponsored by IUPAP as a Type A conference.

There were about 800 participants (a little over one half from outside Japan) at the conference plus an additional 250 attendees at the first day, where the Conference Organization had arranged for a session, open to the general public, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Hideki Yukawa.

There were many highlights at the conference. The first one was a session open to general public as described above. Also, there was a session dedicated to the three young nuclear physicists who received IUPAP Young Scientist Awards. All three IUPAP Award recipients gave plenary invited talks. This session added a very positive flavor to this conference. In addition Elsevier Publishing Co had instituted two prizes for this meeting: one for the best parallel session oral presentation and one for the best poster presentation as voted on by the conference participants on nominations by the Editors of Nuclear Physics A.

Furthermore, there was the Opening Ceremony for which were present both the Emperor and Empress of Japan together with Ministers and other dignatories. Here in particular, the address of the Emperor impressed all participants of the conference. One of the responses was a greeting from Professor Alan Astbury, President of IUPAP.

The conference is considered by the many participants as very stimulating and engaging from beginning till end. Most important was the choice of a series of excellent speakers covering most of the field of nuclear physics. In addition, the events described above added special flavors to the conference.

The conference proceedings will be published by Elsevier Publishing Company. The various invited presentations can be viewed on the web: http://inpc2007.riken.jp .
