Life Science Research Scholarship
This scholarship will be offered annually.
Overview
The Life Science Research Scholarship is intended to aid graduate students who are actively conducting research under TRIUMF's life sciences program using radiotracers produced at TRIUMF. It will be awarded annualy to a graduate student whose research work is dependent upon TRIUMF, on the advice of the TRIUMF Operating Committee.
The scholarship has been made possible by the funds received from NSERC for the Synergy 04 award recognizing the Nordion-TRIUMF parternship in isotope production. The scholarship may be held simultaneously with non-TRIUMF scholarships, bursaries, and fellowships. The value of the scholarship for 2006 will be $3,000.
Applications should be forwarded to TRIUMF by the student's faculty supervisor. Application forms are available at TRIUMF or may be obtained here in PDF format. Complete applications should be returned to:
| TRIUMF Life Science Scholarship c/o Eileen Conning - Director's Office TRIUMF 4004 Wesbrook Mall Vancouver, B.C. V6T 2A3 |
All applications must be received by July 1, 2006 to be eligible for the 2006 award.
Conditions for Eligibility
The Life Science Research Scholarship was created to support graduate students whose main research activity relies on TRIUMF's produced radioisotopes. The award will be made normally to a Ph.D./MSc candidate who is far enough along in his/her program to have demonstrated strong research abilities. A successful applicant may re-apply in open competition in a subsequent year.
The conditions for eligibility are:
- The candidate has carried out a significant part of his/her research activity using isotopes produced by TRIUMF under a TRIUMF approved Life Science project.
- The candidate must be an accredited student at:
- one of the TRIUMF member universities (University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, Carleton University, Université de Montréal, Simon Fraser University, University of Toronto, University of Victoria);
- one of the associate member universities (University of Guelph, University of Manitoba, McMaster University, Queen's University, University of Regina, Saint Mary's University);
- other institutions whose faculty have significant experimental activities on-site at TRIUMF.
- The candidate's thesis project is based on:
- an experiment reviewed by TRIUMF's Life Science Experiments Evaluation Committee;
- the research program requires a significant use of radiotracers from TRIUMF. It must constitute a major part of his/her thesis project (50% time commitment as per Life Science proposal).
- The candidate should expect to receive his/her degree no earlier than September 30, 2006.
