TRIUMF Visitor General Information
Our Visitor Services Coordinator, Jill Seeley, will be happy to help you with all your User's Office needs.
When a visitor comes to TRIUMF to use our experimental facilities, our Visitor Services Coordinator will assist in handling sign in procedures, issuing security access cards, and facilitating the procedures for obtaining radiation badges, computer accounts and safety training as necessary. The Coordinator, will also provide experimenters with basic information about TRIUMF, our services, facilities, and our site policies, and will be available to respond to any administrative questions, and to direct the visitor to appropriate TRIUMF contacts, such as the Scientific Liaison for our experimental facilities.
Many users coming to the TRIUMF facility are Foreign Nationals and as such they will require special paperwork and documents which are outlined in the following pages. In most cases, these visitors will receive a letter of invitation from their TRIUMF contact/host, along with a formal Contract to be signed and returned. The invitation letter is of particular importance for those foreign visitors requiring a work/visitor permit or temporary entry visa. If this is the case, the letter must accompany applications made abroad, and may also be requested by an immigration officer at the port of entry.
The following procedures and/or regulations apply to all visitors when coming to TRIUMF, and the Visitor Coordinator will be able to clarify the requirements for each category of visitor. Links to all referred to forms or documents can also be found on this web page.
PLEASE NOTE: Pacemaker Warning
Visitors to TRIUMF who wear pacemakers or other medical implant devices are advised to avoid any high magnetic field environments until they check with the manufacturer of their specific device to see if it is affected by high magnetic fields. The TRIUMF First Aid Program requires that visitors carry a card in their wallet or wear a medical bracelet to alert our designated first aid attendants or outside medical personnel of their medical condition and the fact they wear a pacemaker. TRIUMF Occupational Health and Safety personnel are able to map out restricted areas if required.
