[edit] Notes on Pacman

This is detailed information on Saul Youssef's Pacman installation package which I am putting here because I tend to forget it.

You have to start by downloading Pacman as a tarball from the Pacman Headquarters webpage. You unzip the tarball somewhere, and do source setup.sh in the pacman directory you have created.

Now create the directory where you really want to install pacman and cd to that directory.

Use pacman to get pacman:
pacman -get http://physics.bu.edu/pacman/sample_cache/:Pacman.pacman

Make sure everything is OK and you can do source setup.sh in the new directory. Now you can get rid of the directory where you unzipped the original tarball.

When new pacman updates are available (you can check with pacman -update-check in your new pacman directory) you can simply install them by doing pacman -update in your pacman directory.
