[edit] High Voltage Control for 8pi and SCEPTAR BGO's

NOTE: Life has become a LOT easier now that we are using CAEN high voltage controllers, and if you can't figure out how to use it yourself, that's your problem.  The only thing that's maybe a little bit tricky, is how to "telnet" into them.

To telnet into the BGO controls:  telnet 8pibgohv.triumf.ca 1527

To telnet into the SCEPTAR controls:  telnet scepterhv.triumf.ca 1527

If clicking on these links does not work, open up a terminal window and type these commands, in full.

THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE:

  • If clicking on these links doesn't work, it is quite likely that your web browser doesn't launch telnet sessions properly.  Open up a terminal window (command prompt in Windows) and type in the commands in full as they are written above.
  • If neither the web browser nor the command line works, you are probably on the wrong side of the firewall.  From your terminal window, ssh -X 8pi@isdaq08.triumf.ca first, then type in the commands in full.
  • If you are still having trouble, make absolutely sure that you are typing in the commands exactly as written above.  In particular:
    • You MUST have 1527 at the end.  The CAEN mainframes do not use the default telnet port, they use port 1527.  If you do not specify port 1527 by adding the 1527 at the end of he command line, you will not be able to connect to the CAEN mainframe.
    • The controller for SCEPTAR is called scepterhv.  Note the (mis)spelling of the latter.
