[edit] General Hardware
Some choices to be made:
- Which detector sub-systems do you want to use
- Ge
- Downstream SCEPTAR or Zero-Degree Scintillator
- Upstream SCEPTAR or PACES
- DANTE
- Install either the Mylar or Aluminized tape
- Gases defuse slower from the aluminized tape
- The aluminized tape is heavier so the total length will be shorter than the mylar tape meaning the same position on the tape may wrap back around to the implantation spot during a run.
- Install the Delrin absorbers or no absorbers
- Important for high-Q-value decays to prevent high-energy beta particles depositing energy in the Ge detectors.
- The Delrin also absorbs gamma rays and will reduce the detection efficiency at low energy
[edit] Ge
Ahead of the run:
- Check the implantation-to-detector distance of each Ge
- Check the noise level of each raw signal on the scope
- Set the required Amplifier gain for all Ges so the full range is appropriate for the experiment
- Set the shaping time of the amplifiers
- If shaping time changes you must re-adjust the ADC local gate
- Set pole-zero for each Ge
- Set pile-up threshold for each Ge
- Set walk alignment in CFDs
- Set threshold in CFDs
Once beam arrives you must re-adjust the thresholds:
- Set threshold in CFDs
- Set pile-up threshold for each Ge
- Set scale-down factors
[edit] BGO
- Check for the presence of signals from each tube
- Set discriminator threshold
[edit] SCEPTAR
Ahead of the run:
- Check for the presence of signals from each tube
- Set the gains by changing voltage applied to each tube
- Set the pedestals
- Set the thresholds
Once beam arrives you must re-adjust the thresholds:
- Set the thresholds
- Set scale-down factors
[edit] PACES
Ahead of the run:
- Set the required Amplifier gain for all Si's so the full range is appropriate for the experiment
- Set the shaping time of the amplifiers
- If shaping time changes you must re-adjust the ADC local gate
- Set pole-zero for each Si
- Set pile-up threshold for each Si
- Set walk alignment in CFDs
- Set threshold in CFDs
Once beam arrives you must re-adjust the thresholds:
- Set threshold in CFDs
- Set pile-up threshold for each Si
- Set scale-down factors
[edit] DANTE
[edit] DAQ
- Select an appropriate master trigger
- Select appropriate JORWAY cycling times
- Ge, Hardware suppressed or Suppression done offline in software
